THE WEATHER this past week has not been good for
fishing on this side of the lake at all, the kids in the campground
managed to catch a few fish in the river, mostly just perch. I
finally caught my second 40 inch pike of the season this one also was
cruzing the shallow water in Shotley Brook, unfortunately this fish
became the meal of a large river other just minuets after being
released back into the river.

Fishing this weekend was good, not as good as last
weekend though. Again we did have a good number of boats on the
lake both Saturday and Sunday, we did see many limits of walleyes but
they did have to work for them. I managed to sneak out for about
an hour on Saturday, but only boated one keeper walleye, what I did
notice is a lot of bugs floating on the surface, maybe that accounted
for my lack of success.

5 days in a row without wind and the walleye fishing is
hot! Two of my grandsons picked the perfect time to come for a
visit, I don’t believe that they ever had been walleye fishing
before but they are experts now. A green spinner and a minnow
was the hot bait for them, I was going to try a florescent red spinner
but never had a chance to try it, all I got to do is drive the boat and
handle the net.

Finally a weekend with out wind, actually it has
been about 4 days now with out and it really shows. On the first
day with no wind we had a couple of fish turn up in the fish cleaning
shack, on Friday the second day with out wind we actually saw a couple
of limits of fish come in, on Saturday the third day with out wind the
rush was on, a few of our regulars were almost in a panic to get there
boats in the water because the walleye fishing was that good and
yesterday there was someone in the fish cleaning shack almost all day
long cleaning fish.
At first most of the fishermen were heading down to
the rock humps west of here but by Saturday they discovered that the
walleye fishing was just as good just in front of here in 6 to 9 feet
of water.

Greetings fishermen! Some good fishing news! Over
the weekend we actually had a couple of days without wind and without
rain WOW! ...And you know what?? They actually caught some fish out
there on the big lake! I’m not saying that they
didn’t have to work for them, but I did see fish. Some were doing
good on the humps and other started out front and worked down to the
bird houses about a mile or 2 to the east of us. Right at the mouth of
Shotley Brook is another spot to check out.
We had a good weekend last weekend, and next weekend
we at ROGERS’ would like to wish the wedding party and the
parents of the groom, (bride too) a wonderful day!
As far as fishing goes, it is always worth a try.
Any day of fishing is better than a good day at work so the old saying
goes.

Greetings fishermen! Yesterday was a beautiful
day J It’s the first day in sometime that it didn’t
rain, and the wind was not calm- - but reasonable. Still, not
much to talk about
fish –wise… The lake is so
stirred up after days and days of wind and rain – there just
isn’t much to talk about....
AND like I have been saying all summer - spring came in April, which
makes the whole thing even worse. Normally July fishing
isn’t the best, but if the lake has a chance to settle down
you possibly could expect something. That just
doesn’t seem to happen.
Now if you are looking to camp, we are very full
this weekend, but the following week has a little availability.
Here at ROGERS IF the fish aren’t co operating there is always
something else to fill in.
Have a great up coming weekend.
Jerry says that there have been a few 40 inch plus pike being caught near Shotley Brook this week.

Greetings fishermen!
Mid July already - - where has the time
gone??? There really has not been much to write about lately, one
windy day after another, and today is no exception. AND now it is
raining… There was a positive note from one of our
seasonal campers that went out and landed themselves 6 nice walleyes.
She said she was using leeches and her husband was using minnows, and
they each landed 3. Also was reported the fish still seem to be
in the shallow water, less than 9 feet.

After two days out of the north/north west the winds
finally laid down, today was a blue bird kind of day. Just like I
guessed the bite was back on, I finally got to get out on the lake
myself and the fish were hungry were I was at. I was only out
there just a hour but manage to boat two keeper walleyes one 17 and one
18 ½, both fish were caught on a glow green spinner and minnow
combo. Hopefully the weather holds out through the weekend.

Greetings fishermen!
A nice bright sunny day today BUT very windy.
Yesterday seemed to produce pretty good fishing for just about
everybody that I talked with. Fishing right out front and at the
mouth of Shotley Brook is still doing well for many. I would say
just what I have been saying all along – when the lake is calm
and the sun is warm – the fishing seems to be pretty good.
Enjoy your day!

Greetings fishermen! Today worked out just as I predicted! (Sometimes I’m right)
The lake had just a slight ripple with a gentle
south breeze. AND many seemed to catch their limits today.
That is just how it has worked for most of the summer. When we
are lucky enough for a calm day and warm sunshine the fish seem to co
operate. With the weekend just ahead of us, let’s hope the
fish gods are on our side.
Have a great weekend!

Greetings fishermen,
Today is the first day of summer. Weather wise
it has been quite the summer with spring starting in April.
Between the weather and the wind it has saved a lot of fish here on
Upper Red Lake. Sunday with the wind laying down, and the sun
rising - it produced limits of fish for some of our fishermen.
Looks like we had better appreciate this nice morning, as IF the
weather person is right (??) we may be in for more showers this
week.

It has been quite a week, the fishing since my last
report has improved quite a bit, limits of walleyes were coming in from
4 to 7 feet of water. One lucky fisherman yesterday caught and
released a 45 inch pike right here in Shotley Brook.
All of that changed again yesterday with all of the
severe weather that past through the area, the lodge building had a
very close call with lightning (see the photo above) in the
afternoon. The lightning strike actually started a small fire and
tripped a few circuit breakers and fuses, with the help of the
neighborhood electrician we were back in business in just an hour or
so. The winds today have been absolutely howling out of the
north/ northwest stopping everyone from getting onto the lake.

Walleye fishing this weekend was not as good as we
expected it would be, some of this could be blamed on the
weather. The fishermen here that did the best fished just out
front with a gold spinner and minnow, there were those who went all the
way to the north shore but the fishing did not seem to be much better
on that side of the lake either.

Gene and his 42 inch pike...
Sunday, June 6, 2010
Fishing this past weekend was better than I
expected, with all of the wind the past few days I would have guessed
that it would take a few days for things to settle down some but I was
wrong.
Walleye fishing was good all along the south shore,
most fishermen from here chose to anchor and fish a jig and minnow
under a slip bobber. There seemed to quite a concentration of
boats right at the mouth of Shotley Brook, mostly because of the rain
showers that appeared about once every hour. Quite a few of them
were targeting the big pike that hang around the river when there is a
good flow and lots of wind both of which these was no shortage
of. There were reports of several fish over 40 inches again this
weekend, even I managed to boat a couple of 35 and 36 inchers this a.m.
They still are bringing in good numbers of crappies,
again most all of these fish are coming in from the north shore of the
big lake, maybe someday I will get a chance to get over there.

Bobs 42 inch pike...
Doug and Mitch...

Ray with a nice northern pike and Cletus with a snapping turtle that favored his jig and minnow....

Brady from South Dakota with a 43 inch pike that he caught off the dock...

Ricko's shoulda been here yesterday guide service...
Monday, May 31, 2010
Yesterday started off good but by early morning the
winds switched to the southwest and blew just about everyone off the
lake. There were a couple of lucky fishermen that beat the wind
and caught a few walleyes, one even landed a nice mess of crappies.
The rest of the day the fishing was just a hand full of kids
fishing off the docks and for them the action was good as the river was
full of hungry sheepshead with the occasional walleye, northern pike
and a snapping turtle.
Sunday, May 30, 2010
Fishing yesterday was better than I thought it would
be after all of the wind the previous two days. They still are
still catching most of the walleyes trolling, both crank baits
and spinner and minnow combinations are working.
We still have a few fishermen that are slamming the
crappies pretty good, again they mostly are headed to the north shore
some where, they still won’t tell me where.
Monday, May 24, 2010
We knew it couldn’t last but our run of
unbelievably nice weather finally came to an end today. I still
think we can have another run of nice weather again for the up coming
holiday weekend.
The walleye fishing remained good right up until
today, limits of keeper walleyes were coming in everyday, the best
fishing was on a gold colored spinner trolled slowly in 5 to 8 feet of
water.
Now that the hot crappie bite is almost done I can
tell just how good it really was, we have had a group of fishermen who
have been catching there limits of slab crappie on a daily basis. Being
a man of my word I have not told anyone about it until today.
Most of the crappies were caught in the rushes on the north shore but
quite a few were caught right here in front of the resort in 5 feet of
water.
Tonight Joani and I had another fish fry on the
campfire, while doing so we thought some of you might enjoy just how we
do our fish here at our house, just in case here is a link to our new
cooking page. Campfire Cooking Enjoy…and let us know what you think…

Greetings Fishermen,
WOW! What a opening weekend it
was. The weather just could not have been any better. AND
the fishing was not bad either. I think it was just like Jerry
and I said it was going to be, you had to work a little harder for them
then some years, due to the summer like weather in April. Still
many caught their limits without to much difficulty.
Seemed to me the better bite was in the
afternoon. The walleyes here on Red like the lake flat, and the
weather warm. This opening weekend they had both.
Jig and a minnow worked for most, and bobber fishing was also doing the
trick. As the temperatures warm up the fishing should just get
better.
Thanks to all of you that accessed upper Red from ROGERS’ landing.

The fish cleaning shack had a steady line both Saturday and Sunday...
Quite a few fishermen were having good luck finding crappies...
Tuesday, May 11, 2010
Looks like we are ready for this years fishing
opener, the docks all have new decks in place and just need to be
leveled up some. The boat ramp is in good shape, I just need to
level up the parking lot a little and we will be ready to go.
Fishing this year will be different, because of the
early spring and lack of run off Shotley Brook has no fish in it, so it
looks like everyone will have to get in their boats and get out on the
lake and find where they went.
5/9/10

Kenny and a few others have been able to find a few crappies the past two weeks...
